Transphobia

Hi, I'm juliet and on this webpage i will be discussing transphobia and why its a massive social issue.

Transphobia, noun: an aversion or hostility to, disdain for, or fear of transgender people.

Since around 2019-2021 I have been publically out as a trans woman and this has come with changes to my life, mainly how i'm treated by others (school was a nightmare for a good while when i first came out because being different is somehow an issue to some) and the impacts on my mental health because of that. I have created this page to express my feelings on transphobia and overall view on ~society~.

Transphobia in the United States has been changing over time. Acceptance of transgender people has been decreasing and increasing due to political polarization, laws, social media and many more various factors like religion. I personally think these factors are *NEVER* a justifiable reason to hate on a group of people and those who do should not be welcomed into society.

Everyone is transphobic until their own trans child gets killed or seriously injured by other transphobic people. Abject hate of groups of people is almost never warranted, and should be stopped. Unfortunately, the only way to stop such a thing is to exclude the hate-spewing people from society. While this may sound personally biased, it should be noted that people are always willing to dispense hate until someone else dispenses hate onto them, constantly ridiculing and tormenting them.

Ultimately, it is from a lack of moral learning that people are transphobic. We do not consider it reasonable to be racist in today's society, but some people consider it okay to be transphobic. When people see the dreadful suffering some transgender people endure, many choose to stop being transphobic. However, I believe it is through education that there is nothing intrinsically morally wrong with existing as a transgender person. Trans people have no higher inclination to commit crimes than non-trans people, and merely want to exist and be accepted in an otherwise cruel world.

While writing this page I found this interesting image of a transphobia pyramid. it basically explains how transphobia works. It starts from people making stereotypes about trans people to prejudice which leads directly to discrimination and its effects.
